Rita Goncalves
Rita is an innovative and friendly young woman who recently finished studying a BA in Popular Music at Middlesex University. She is the oldest of 3 siblings. One of them just turned 18 years old, but the other one is now 8 years old, so during her life she took care of her younger sister a lot. Her film teacher told us 'we would have children on set, and Rita was always the one to take care of them. She is patient and nurturing and highly responsible'.
Rita was born in a small town in the north of Portugal. She grew up with her 2 sisters on her parent's farm, where they had a very happy and privileged childhood. When she was 15, she moved to Oporto (also called Porto) to attend an art school, where she specialised in audiovisual communication (photography and video). She says that ‘it was one of the most important and special experiences I had in all my life. It was a challenge because I had to live alone and take care of myself at 15 years old, but on the other hand, those 3 years were the best years of my life.’
Rita has had an extensive and varied experience with babysitting and nannying having been doing it for the three years she has been at university. She has worked with four families since starting at university; one with 2 kids (a 3yo and a 5 yo), another with 3 kids (5, 9 and 11 yo), one family with 11yo twins and most recently a French family with a 5yo and a 9yo. During her time doing this she helped out around the house, supported the children with their homework, and spent time developing her French language skills.
Music and photography aren’t the only creative interests Rita has, she is also very knowledgeable in subjects like Art History, theatre and drawing and enjoys cooking and baking. Rita is fluent in English and Portuguese and has minimal understanding of French and Spanish which she hopes to develop further.
