Structured Party Entertainment Suggestions

Here are some suggested party plans centred around five exciting themes, each paired with a popular story that families can select for their child’s birthday celebration. These ideas cater to three distinct age groups, ensuring consistency across themes so all CocoRio creatives can confidently host any party.

Of course, these are simply guidelines for reference. Feel free to bring your own unique input and personal touch to each session!

The generic ‘welcome’
(15/20 minutes at the start of every party)

All parties will have a ‘welcome’ at the beginning of every party which allows for children to arrive and get comfortable in the space. This will be the same for every party.

As the children arrive:

  • Give each child a name tag - if they are old enough get them to write their own name and decorate the tag

  • While they wait for others to arrive, keep them engaged with themed colouring sheets (use a range of colour pencils, stickers etc)

  • Once all children have arrived, allow them to show off their work to their parents and each other

  • If parents allow, children can then get a themed tattoo (only for children 3+)

  • Invite the children to explore the area, play hide and seek with them, get to know their names, draw the attention to the climbing frames for them to explore independently.

Party child introduction

Next, invite everyone to sit down in the middle area and engage the children with the following questions:

  • Why are we here?

  • Who’s birthday is it?

  • How old are they turning? Play up to this with silly jokes, saying you have magic powers you will guess the age, then get age wrong, ask children to show you with fingers how old the birthday child is  etc

  • What song do we sing? Be silly and use Christmas tunes as follows “i want to wish you a happy bday….”, “we wish you a happy bday and a happy new year”. Ask the children to teach you the real song

Then put the bday hat on the bday child and invite everyone to sing Happy Birthday to warm up for later with the cake , but let’s not sing it the boring old way - sing it loud, sing it slow, Crown the birthday child and get a group photo - allow parents to do this and get out of the way.

Quiet table

Each party structure includes a craft activity but the creatives should have the craft area available throughout the party for those children who would like a quieter activity and do not want to mingle as much. The ‘quiet table’ will of course have all that is needed for the craft activity but also include extra colouring sheets and books to read.

Under 2s

Parties for under 2s have less of a formal structure as children this young have a shorter attention span. In light of this, the role of the creatives is to guide the children through the sensory stations and enable a loose structure for play, food and cake.

The under 2’s party structure

1. Welcome 15 minutes
2. Sensory stations 20 minutes (free walking with parents)
3. Structured activity 15 minutes

4. Food 15 minutes
5. Cake and birthday song 10 minutes
6. Bubble party 20 minutes
7. Goodbye 5 minutes

The sensory stations can be the same for all themes:

  • Colouring/sticker station

  • Book area

  • Sensory area with balls, soft books, coloured feathers, mirrors, sensory scarves etc

If possible, borrow some materials from the nursery area.

Once all the guests are here, move around the stations and engage with the children and parents, encouraging them to move to different stations.
