Hot cocoa, crafts, and Christmas

CocoRio is back with a Christmas special – we’ve put together a list of different activities that you can do with the whole family!

December is right around the corner, and I don’t know about you but I’m so excited I could burst into a snowflake!

Whether you celebrate the holidays for religious reasons or because you love fluffy socks so much (the most under-rated presents EVER!) I think we can all agree that it’s a special time to spend with the people we love the most ❤️

A little holiday love comes from us in this list of activities that the whole family can get involved in, enjoy!

Olaf sock toy

Well, here’s how! You will need: rice, a white sock, 3 elastic bands, a pair of googly eyes, orange felt, black felt, 2 cotton balls and glue.

You’ll want to fill up the sock with rice, making sure to keep Olaf’s bottom, torso and head tightly secured with elastic bands. Then you’ll want to cut out his arms, buttons and mouth from the black felt, and his nose from the orange felt. Glue down his eyes and his cotton ball feet and there you are!

3D Christmas tree

For this super simple craft you’ll need some green card, yellow card, a pipe cleaner and a hole puncher. Cut the green card into a triangle and the yellow card into the shape of a star. Keep folding the green card in half until you get a small strip. Then you’ll want to punch a hole in the centre and push the pipe cleaner through it. Slowly pull the green card down and stick your star on top and voila!

Write a letter to Santa

Writing a letter to Santa is the perfect way to develop your children’s writing skills in a fun and creative way. Is there something your child is grateful for this year? Get them to tell Santa about it- I’m sure he’ll love reading it while he nibbles on the cookies you left out for him. You get to find out what your little ones truly desire, and they get to feel the magic of Christmas approaching!

Rudolph cupcakes

Do your children love to bake, or would you like to introduce them to baking? Well, here’s a recipe for some Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer cupcakes!

For 12 cupcakes you will need:

  • 112.5g margarine

  • 100g caster sugar

  • 25g cocoa powder

  • 100g self raising flour

  • 2 eggs

  • 2 tablespoons of milk

  • 100g milk chocolate chips

  • 100g plain chocolate chips

  • 50g unsalted butter

  • 75g icing sugar

  • Red glace cherries

To make the cupcakes:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C (or gas mark 4).

  2. Combine the butter and sugar, making sure to add the eggs one at a time.

  3. Sift the flour and cocoa powder into a bowl, and then fold this into the wet mix, adding a little milk if needed.

  4. Line your tins with cupcake cases and fill each one with a spoonful of the cake mix.

  5. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes.

  6. Put aside 24 chocolate chips for decorating the cupcakes.

  7. Melt the rest of the plain chocolate in a microwave and drizzle onto greaseproof paper into antler shapes.

  8. Melt 50g of milk chocolate and 25g of unsalted butter in the microwave. Stir in 37.5g of icing sugar and cover 6 of the cupcakes.

  9. Carefully peel off the ‘antlers’ from the greaseproof paper and stick 2 on each cake. Add 2 chocolate chips as eyes and a cherry as a nose to each cupcake.

Paper plate angel tree topper

All you need for this craft is a paper plate, some wool, glue, sequins and any other decorative bits and bobs. You’ll cut out 4 triangles, making sure to leave enough space in the middle to act as a torso. This will leave you with 4 spokes. Then you will cut one of these spokes into a circle to create the angel’s head. Use the wool for hair and decorate the rest of the play with stickers, sequins and anything else your little ones want to use!

Christmas word search

Making a word search isn’t as complicated as you may think. Get together a list of Christmas themed words that you want to use. You’ll want to draw a big square which you’ll then divide up into smaller cubes. Fill the words in across the cubes- you can go along, down, and diagonal (perhaps even backwards if your child is a little older)! Then you will need to fill in the rest of the cubes with random letters, and finally add your list of words. Simple!

There you have it- a list of Christmas activities all your children can get involved in. Tag us in your crafts because we’d love to see what your families create! Our Instagram handle is @cocorio_uk 😊
